KILDARE’S new senior football manager will be unveiled tonight (8 October) – if a deal can be hammered out with Jason Ryan in time.

County chairman John McMahon postponed last week’s scheduled county board meeting in the hope of finalizing a deal with Ryan but both men will be burning the midnight oil.

“There has been contact with the county board but there is no agreement in place at the moment,” said Ryan on Monday.

“Hopefully we’ll have a name on Tuesday (8 October) night,” said McMahon on Sunday although he said: ‘no comment’, when asked if there was only one man left in the race.

RTE pundit and All-Ireland winning club manager, Kevin McStay, was also contacted about the vacant Kildare job.

“I think I am (in the running) but there’s a few days yet to play out,” said McStay on RTE at the GAA Football Championship draw on Thursday night (3 October), leading to speculation that the Mayo man was still a contender.

Kildare will face Louth or Westmeath in next year’s Leinster championship quarter-finals and the prize for the winners is a semi-final against Meath or Carlow.
