NEW Kildare manager Jason Ryan begins the search for new players on Friday night (25 October).
Ryan will manage the Lilies for the first time when they play Offaly in a challenge game at Hawkfield. Club players from across the county have been invited to attend and they will have a chance to impress again on Tuesday night (29 October) when Kildare play Laois in Athy.
Completing a busy schedule for Ryan’s new recruits will be another challenge against Meath on Wednesday (30 October) against Meath in Kilcock. Ryan was officially ratified as Kildare manager on 1 October and the Waterford native has hit the ground running. In the last fortnight Ryan has been making contact with clubs in a bid to unearth fresh talent for the 2014 season, which begins on the first weekend of January with the start of the O’Byrne Cup .
“Clubs will be asked to suggest players that they feel are appropriate or deserve an opportunity to play,” said Ryan.
The Kildare panel of 2013 will not be put through the trialling process so Ryan will spend the last days of October hunting for new additions.
“If you were on the panel this year then you were on the panel for a reason but you will have to justify your place. But you’re not going to go through a process of trialling guys that have five or six years of strength and conditioning and development behind them and trial them with a fella who doesn’t have any of that behind him. It’s not fair,” said Ryan.
All three of Kildare’s upcoming challenge games will begin at 7.30pm and the admission fee will go towards the Kildare players fund.
