Former Kildare selector lands €170k gamble
FORMER Kildare selector Niall Carew is €170,000 richer thanks to Kerry footballer Kieran O’Leary.
Carew cashed in on an accumulator bet at odds of 18,512/1 when O’Leary scored the equaliser at the end of Sunday’s drawn All-Ireland senior football final between Mayo and Kerry. The Kildare man – who previously owned a bookmaker shop in Coill Dubh – collected a cheque for €170,322 from Boylesports thanks to his successful gamble.
Carew placed two bets – a €5 accumulator and a €3 Lucky 15 – made up of the same four selections: Ribbons in the 3.10 at Deauville at 10/1, Ansgar in the 4.15 at Goodwood at 10/1, Kalann in the 5.10 at the Curragh at 16/1 and Kerry-Mayo to finish in a draw at 8/1.
