The Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town judges were in Kilcullen last Friday. Mayor of Kildare Martin Miley was on hand to welcome to the town where they visited several businesses

Afterwards they were taken on a walkabout to see the structure of the town and examples of the various community, heritage and business elements that underpinned the town’s growth through the decades and will spur further growth in coming years.
The tour included meeting the current family owners in two of Kilcullen’s iconic businesses, Berney Brothers Saddlers and Nolans Butchers. The judges were sent away with a comprehensive aide-memoire providing details of key clubs, community groups, and how business was attracted and maintained through the last 70 years.
The competition will go through a regional level and a national one, with a total prize fund of €115,000 up for grabs. The final result will be known in November.—
