MAY Day 1968 saw the grand opening of Kilkea Castle Hotel by the late Dr Erskine Childers.
American Dr Bill Cade purchased the Castle and grounds in the late 1960s and lovingly restored it into a beautiful hotel.
Last Tuesday 1 May 2018, exactly 50 years to the day after the castle first opened its doors as a hotel, a group of former staff, including some of the original staff, gathered in the Castle to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
Manager Aidan O’Sullivan opened the castle to the former staff for this special occasion and pulled out all the stops to make them feel welcome. The red carpet was rolled out and the guests were greeted with a glass of Fruit Cup. There was a warm fire glowing in the very comfortable lounge where everyone got reacquainted.
People had travelled from Chicago, Cork, Kinsale, Carlow and Kildare to take part in the reunion.
Having renewed aquaintences the happy group made their way to Kilkea Castle Golf Club where they were met and welcomed by Andrew Ewing, Golf Club Supervisor. There they enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by Andrew’s team.
The spcecial menu remembered 1st May 1968 and Bill Cade’s wonderful dreams.
