NAAS Racecourse kicked off its 2019 season on Sunday with a great day’s racing in front of a huge crowd of 5,610 people on Sunday last 6 January.

Racecourse manager Tom Ryan commented: “Today was a fantastic start to our year here at Naas Racecourse. We had an increased attendance on last year and I think we saw a very good winner of the Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle in Battleoverdoyen. He certainly looks to be a horse with a big career ahead of him and we are very grateful to Lawlor’s Of Naas for their continued support of our Grade 1 race. With big crowds, great racing, brilliant atmosphere and a hotly contested Best Dressed Lady competition it really was a day to remember for everyone here at Naas.”

Suzanne Gallagher from Sligo was crowned the Best Dressed Lady.

She received a prize to the value of almost €3,500 which includes a luxurious Ladies Day package at Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel, Naas, a €1,500 voucher for the Residence Day Spa in Naas and €1,500 worth of accessories and products from Alan Keville for Hair. The four runners up each received a €100 voucher for the Residence Day Spa and a €100 voucher for Alan Keville for Hair.

The winner wore a camel coat with dramatic faux fur cuffs on carpet sleeves, paired with an ivory skirt dress. Her eye-catching hat was designed by Irish milliner Martha Lynn, and Suzanne complimented her outfit with vintage ivory gloves, an ivory clutch bag and camel court shoes.

Suzanne was picked as the winner by a team of judges headed up by celebrity fashion judge, model and nutritionist Rosanna Davison.

The theme for the Best Dressed Lady competition was ‘fashion through time’, so ladies were encouraged to give a little nod to their favourite styles down through the ages by including something from that particular time as part of their outfit.

The next race meeting at Naas Racecourse, is the January Jumps meeting which takes place on Sunday 27 January.

We will have more photos from Naas Races next issue.
