MORE than 400 people are employed directly by the county’s ten Lidl stores and at the Newbridge distribution centre in Kildare.

The supermarket giant highlighted the contribution it makes to the county with figures from it’s IMPACT report which examines the positive influence it has on local economies.

According to the report more than €50million agri food produce is sourced from Kildare suppliers and over €2,000 was donated to local charities and community groups.

The report shows that more than 400 people are employed at ten stores across the county and at the distribution centre located in Newbridge.

It found also that 5,700 meals donated in Kildare through a nationwide initiative with FoodCloud. This was set up to distribute surplus food to worthwhile causes that would otherwise go to waste.

It notes that almost €43,000 was raised for Jigsaw, Lidl’s charity partner, which provides mental health support to young people and nine local ladies gaelic football clubs benefiting from jerseys or other equipment under the ladies gaelic football partnership.
