MARGARET and Joe Murphy are well known for their fundraising activities. The popular couple run a monthly social dance in Tougher’s outside Naas on the last Thursday of each month to raise funds for Spina Bifida. It’s a cause close to their hearts.

Their daughter Joanne who will be 36 this year has Spina Bifida so 34 years ago Margaret and Joe set about fundraising for the association that provides support for families.

In the interim years they have raised thousands of pounds and euro for the cause but they have never rested on their laurels and have also been busy raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

The Murphys would like to thank all the Athy schools, teachers and students who supported Daffodil Day; also Amy and Cathal Burke from Barrowhouse, all the volunteers and street collections who assisted on the day.

They would also like to thank SuperValu, Apple Green, Dealz and the post office for allowing stalls at their premises and the Owens family for providing the fresh daffodils.
