EARLY Scholars in Athgarvan recently held a Superhero charity event to raise funds for the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice.

The idea of hosting the event came about when Manager Suzanne Fleming saw the charity day being promoted on TV3AM.

“I thought what can we do to as a childcare provider to help the charity and their families and so we contacted Laura Lynn and they   sent a pack with all the information and t shirts etc to prepare and this is our third year going, and it was a huge success,” said Suzanne.

“We participate in hosting other charity events during the year including Pyjama Day for Barnardos and Early Scholars also support Barretstown Children’s Charity on an ongoing basis,” she added.

“We feel it is very important that children in our setting are aware that some children have additional needs and are different and that is ok so we celebrate our differences. They are superheroes too.

“The children complete activities in the run up to our Superhero day Event and they love to dress up on the day. They understand what the day is about,” said Suzanne.

“Our events manager Marie Walsh did a terrific job in the planning and the parents also played a very important role in raising funds for the event, baking cakes and sponsoring our prizes for our raffle and also the parents and staff that arrived and purchased tickets for the raffle.”

A total of €970 has been raised to date and that figure is still rising. If you wish to donate please   contact Marie Walsh Early Scholars Athgarvan. Email; [email protected]
