A RATHANGAN singer-songwriter released his first song in seven years last week, before he lands back for the homecoming gig next month.
Tod Doyle is currently finishing a three-week tour of Germany with Lisa Canny but will be back in Ireland to play the Workman’s Club in Dublin on Thursday evening. This will mark the beginning of his winter tour which will see him play in Newtownards and Limerick, before the Ubh Cafe in Newbridge on 29 November, before he returns home to Rathangan to play in the RYARC Centre on 21 December.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Tod about the single Ice Cream – his first release since These Days in 2012, “but I’m looking forward to the next couple of singles I’ll release – each will be quite different.”
He kept the production local too, with Ice Cream being the first of four songs he mixed at the Curragh studio of Ronan ‘Hally’ O’Halloran over the last nine months – a very appropriate period of gestation. These Days was written and recorded in Budapest, Hungary, and was toured extensively across Europe and Ireland.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Tod spent many years on the road with various bands, but is returning now to forge his own path on the modern Irish folk scene.
