A MOTORIST allegedly clocked driving at 223kph (140mph) on the motorway will have to return to court in November for sentencing Naas court heard last week (28 July).
The Athy District Court sitting in Naas was told that gardaí detected Forinel Gheorghe (32), of Kiltipper Way in Tallaght doing 103kph over the motorway limit on the M9 at Inchiquine, near Athy on 23 July.
Unusually, along with the fixed penalty notice for speeding, the DDP directed Mr Gheorghe be charged with S53 of the Road Traffic Act, dangerous driving.
“That is the highest alleged speed I’ve come across in my time here,” said Judge Desmond Zaidan, a 14-year veteran of the Kildare bench.
He remanded Mr Gheorghe on continuing bail in his absence until 10 November for hearing in Athy District Court.
