RENOWNED Currabeg training legend, John Oxx, has this evening announced his intention to retire at the end of the season. The trainer of Sea of the Stars, Sinndar and many other equine greats said in a statement, “In 2021 I will not be renewing my trainer’s licensing. It has been my good fortune to have enjoyed a lot of success and trained some great horses.”

“I am extremely grateful to all owners who have sent me those horses to train since 1979, to all the great jockeys who rode them all and to all the exceptional staff who have worked for us over the last 41 years.”

“My concern at the moment is that our staff can find alternative employment as our training business will cease at the end of this turf season in November,” he concluded.

Derbys, Irish Derbys, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes were among the 70 year old’s successes. Mick Kinnane and Johnny Murtagh were leading jockeys associated with Oxx while he also had a long association with HH Aga Khan.
