Former Fine Gael councillor Reggie Lawlor and his wife Liz got a surprise on Saturday when singing Garda Sean O’Mahoney, Patricia Berry and others arrived on their doorstep in White Castle Lawns in Athy to wish them a happy 50th wedding anniversary.
“Are you coming to take him away? Are you going to arrest him,” joked Liz Lawlor when she saw Garda Mahony and the squad car parked outside the door.
“Are you not sick of him” joked the guard. “I am yeah,” she replied.
When asked the secret of a long and happy marriage. “It’s a miracle.” joked Liz.
The couple originally had plans to mark the occasion with a trip away with their son and family who live in Limerick but that had to be cancelled because of the Covid 19 restrictions.
Instead Garda Mahony serened them with a rendition of Black is the Colour.
Reggie served on Athy Urban District Council and Kildare Co Council for many years.
