Athy MD councillor Ivan Keatley has asked for confirmation of any plans to resolve the flooding issues at Kilkea Upper, Castleroe on the L8086. He was informed that work along this road will be carried out as part of routine maintenance.

Cllr Keatley also sought confirmation of any plans to improve the sightlines at Corballis crossroads, Castledermot. A report explained that there are no plans to improve sightlines at this junction and if work were to be carried out it would require a design and a source of finance identified.

Cllr Keatley said it’s disappointing there are no plans and that he will have to place a motion on it.

Those issues were raised at the MD’s February meeting, at which Cathaoirleach Aoife Breslin asked the council to confirm if it has any plans to carry out works to clear out a drain on waste ground at the rear of houses in Kingsgrove, Athy.

The response to her question said there are no plans to carry out any work on this drain, adding that it’s located on private property and, up to now, ‘has not given any trouble’.

Cllr Breslin noted the reply and said she still has concerns regarding this drain, adding that at some stage it will overrun into gardens.

The meeting heard it’s on private property and to get in to do any work would mean getting permission.

It was noted there’s very little that can be done, but it will be looked at again.
