Our piece on Roisin Byrne which appears in this week’s Kildare Nationalist Sport
By Pat Costello
RÓISÍN Byrne of Kildare was named on the LGFA/TG4 at left corner forward on the LGFA/TG4 Intermediate Team of the Year which was announced on Saturday night.
Given that Kildare had marched to a League Final before the Covid restrictions and that they were just pipped, on points difference, for a place on an All-Ireland quarter final place, perhaps a few other Lilywhite players might count themselves unlucky not to have made the team also.
That Sarsfields player, Byrne, deserved the recognition there is no doubt. She has been Kildare’s top scorer since 2015 and captained the team in 2018. A shoulder injury curtailed he involvement for a time but she returned to the fray in 2020 and came on as a sub against Laois in the National Football League and scored 6 points.
26-year-old Róisín, scored 4-24 between League and Championship last year, 0-12 in the League and 4-12 in the Championship.
Meanwhile Wicklow, who were managed to an All-Ireland Final by Moorefield’s Mark Murnaghan, had seven players on the Junior Team of the Year.
