Don’t forget – Athy Wheelers Cycling Club is hosting the inaugural South Kildare Youths Grand Prix this Sunday 13 June.
Sign on is at 9am at the Moat of Ardscull outside the town and racing starts at 10am sharp on the day, with races for U12s, U14s and U16s for both boys and girls.
U16s will do three laps (39km), U14s will do two laps (26km), while the U12s will do one lap of 8km. There’ll be prizes for the first six boys and girls.
Race organiser John Fox from Athy Wheelers explained that there’s a 13km circuit that will take in Fontstown and Booleigh. The race is open to participants from around the country and he noted that “we’ll be getting riders from the north and from Munster and all.” It’s undoubtedly a great opportunity to showcase south Kildare to a wider audience.
To sign up for the race, visit eventmaster.ie and search for ‘South Kildare Youths GP’ (you’ll need a Cycling Ireland licence number). Hopefully the good weather we’ve had of late shows up for the race on Sunday morning – as John remarked, “we’re just hoping that we get the weather for it and that’s the main thing.”
