KILDARE ladies football manager, Daniel Moynihan, has made one significant change in personnel and one notable positional switch for Sunday’s Lidl National League Division 3 Final against Laois in Baltinglass with a 4pm throw-in.

All Star goalkeeper Mary Hulgraine, who returned for the semi-final against Sligo in Kiltoom two weeks ago, drops off the team and hasn’t been included among the substitutes for Sunday’s game. Instead Maynooth’s Dervla McGinn has been named between the posts and so becomes the third goalkeeper used by Moynihan in 2021.

Sarsfields’ Brooke Dunne played between the posts for the opening three games with Hulgraine at No 1 last time out. In a positional switch, Laoise Lenehan, who made such a fine job of curtailing Laois sharp shooter, Mo Nerney, in the second half of the opening game at Portlaoise, has now been sited at full back for this one, in a direct swop with Lara Gilbert, (Kildangan/Nurney) now filling the No 6 shirt.

It is expected that Kill player, Lenehan, will stay quite close to Nerney from the off on Sunday, and if she is successful with that then it would go a long way towards achieving a Kildare victory.

With the obvious exception of the injured Roisin Byrne, the remainder of the team is along expected lines with the very experienced Siobhan O’Sullivan and Grainne Kenneally deployed to provide the ammunition to the very potent forward line which includes captain, Grace Clifford, Ellen Dowling and Neasa Dooley.

Kildare showed against Sligo that the team is blending into a cohesive unit with huge scoring potential and if they can continue with that progression then silverware could be crossing over from the Garden County to the Short Grass County on Sunday evening.

We wish them the Very Best of Luck.
