Duggan Park, Ballinasloe is the venue for this one but while it may not be in Roscommon it might as well be so you could hardly describe it as a neutral venue. Kildare will have more things to worry about that the venue you would expect though as they head west without two of their more experienced players, Roisin Byrne and Triona Duggan, both of whom have suffered season ending knee injuries in recent weeks.

Roisin is on the long road to recovery after her operation last week while Triona is expected to have her procedure shortly. We wish them both speedy and full recoveries.

Kildare will have to pick themselves up after the narrow one point loss in the Division 3 League Final to the more experienced Laois side in Baltinglass but they will know that if they play to their full potential and take their chances, when presented, then inexperience or no they are a match for any side.

Their performances during the League Group stages, while patchy at times, nevertheless earned six of their players a place of the Division 3 Team of the League, just one shy of champions, Laois.

The only form guide we have between Kildare and Roscommon in recent times is their most recent meetings with Laois. The Rossies just came out on the wrong end of a 4 -15 to 5-9 League semi-final loss and they have scorers in Laura Fleming, Aisling Manley Natalie McHugh and Joanne Cregg so they will need watching.

Kildare, though, have the defenders to do that “watching” job in Claire Sullivan, Laoise Lenehan, Laura Gilbert and Lauren Murtagh. If midfielders, Siobhan O’Sullivan and Grainne Kenneally can keep a steady supply of good ball into the forwards then the likes of Lara Curran, Grace Clifford, Ellen Dowling and Neasa Dooley will hurt any team.

With the return of Erica Burke to the panel, she has been playing with Bohemians in the Women’s National League, the expectation is that Kildare’s visit to the west will be a winning one.
