IT’S Round 2 of the TG4 LGFA Intermediate Championship and Kildare travel to Portlaoise to take on a Laois team that they are getting closer to with each passing game. Could Sunday be the day when Kildare finally overtake the O’Moore County?

Why not? There was jut a point in it in the Division 3 League Final in Baltinglass and Kildare were giving away a lot of experience on the day. The experience gained by the likes of Laoise Lenehan, Lauren Murtagh, and Ciara Wheeler was immeasurable and they as well as their team mates put that to good effect against Roscommon in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe on Sunday last.
Kildare managed that game superbly in the hot conditions of Duggan Park and a similar task awaits in the heated cauldron that will be MW Hire O’Moore Park on Sunday.
There used to be a theory that if you stopped Mo Nerney then you stopped Laois. That’s still true to an extent but while a team is doing that they also have to be mindful of the threat of her sister and team captain, Laura, Jane Moore, Anna Healy and Sarah Anne Fitzgerald.
Daniel Moynihan seems to have found the team he has been searching for since the start of the League and although without injury victims, Roisin Byrne and Trina Duggan, he has been boosted by the return from soccer duties of the talented forward, Erica Burke. Grace Clifford, Ellen Dowling and the impressive Neasa Dooley, can be lethal in front of goals and if they can get enough supply of good ball then they can hurt Laois.
Sunday should be the Lilies day.
