The Council has been asked to commit to adding the Fortbarrington Road in Athy from Ardrew Meadows to the border with Co Laois to the Roads Programme in 2022, including placing traffic calming measures on both sides of the entrance of Ardrew Drive.

That request came from local councillor Mark Leigh by way of a motion at the Athy MD July meeting. He was informed that the road can be added to the 2022 road programme and that any requests for traffic calming will need to be assessed having regard to Kildare Co Council guidelines.

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Leigh said that no meaningful work has been done to it for some years and that it needs to be resurfaced.
