DCU advanced to the next round of this year’s Sigerson Cup, with a rather comfortable win over Maynooth University on Tuesday night.
The current holders of the cup raced into a five point lead inside the opening 12 minutes courtesy of Robert Finnerty, Luke Towey, Red Og Murphy, Shane Tierney and Jack Bryant, and DCU remained in full control throughout the entirety of the tie.

Played in freezing conditions on the Maynooth University North Campus, the home side had to wait until the 16th minute for their first score of the game to arrive and it came through Clane man, Shane O’Sullivan, from a free.
DCU outscored the hosts by 0-4 points to 0-3 in the lead up to the half time whistle and held a relatively commanding 0-9 to 0-4 point advantage.
Goals were the killer blow for Maynooth University in the second half, and although they did manage to grab a consolation of their own through Dan Lynham, it was the two from DCU players Robert Finnerty and Joseph Hagan that proved decisive.
The goals, coupled with some excellent points from play ensured that DCU went on to the next stage of the competition, full value for their win.
