Athy Photographic Society recently held their annual Photographer of the Year competition, showcasing the depth of talent in the local community.

The competition had three categories – novice, intermediate and overall photographer of the year – and was judged by Peter Barriscale from Malahide Camera Club. The club would like to thank Peter for his excellent comments on the night. With 22 photographers overall taking part there were over 80 images on display, and the club would also like to thank all the members who took part.

The novice category was new this year and had six members. The winner, Jane Chanders, is a new member of the club.

The intermediate category had nine members. The winner on the night was Anthony Hubbock, who is also a new member of the club.

The overall photographer of the year competition category had 22 members, with over 80 photographs on display, and the overall winner was Pat O’Rourke.

The club would like to congratulate all three winners on their fantastic achievements.

Athy Photographic Society was formed in the mid-1980s when a group of enthusiastic amateur photographers came together to form what has now become an award-winning club.

Members have the opportunity to discuss and improve their photography in a relaxed and friendly environment.
