A DRIVER who failed to stay at the scene of a single-vehicle hit and run was fined a total of €1100 and banned from driving at Athy District Court last week (10 May).
The court heard how gardai were called to the scene of a crash on the L8086 in Cardington, Athy – the canalside road from Woodstock out to Cuan Mhuire – where the found a car lying on its side after hitting a hedge.
“There was no driver, and there was extensive damage done to the hedge, estimated to be around €500,” said the sergeant.
Judge Zaiden fined the man €350 for the hit and run, and another €750 for the dangerous driving, before banning him for two years.
