An elderly man was successful in his application for an interim Protection Order against his adult son at Athy District Court last week (10 May) after the court heard of a “violent relationship,” and that the son had tried locking his father out of the family home.
The elderly man ( who is in his 80s) was assisted into the Family Court in Athy by his daughter who told Judge Desmond Zaidan how her brother has a violent relationship with their father and also had mental health issues.
“I’m going to give him his Barring Order,” said the judge.
“This man can’t be let near the house,” he said.
The judge granted the interim Order, and adjourned a hearing on a more permanent iteration until 28 June, when the son will be invited to give his side.
