Katie Costello a 21-year-old nursing intern from Athy will represent Co Kildare at the forthcoming Miss Macra competition to be held in Thurles.
Katie, who lives in Blackwood was selected to represent Kildare before Covid hit.
“It is a three-day event which is held on the August Bank Holiday 29th of July until August 1st. I will be staying with a host family in Thurles and participating in many activities along with the other contestants. I am lucky to have gotten the opportunity to compete in Miss Macra and winning would be an amazing boost to my year. I am studying Nursing and I will be graduating from Trinity College Dublin in November after my internship in St James Hospital is complete,” said Katie.
“It has been a tough two years for everyone but especially young people and I have seen this while working through the pandemic in a lovely nursing home, Lourdesville nursing home , in Kildare which was able to remain Covid free due to the extensive measures taken from the beginning.
“I learned plenty of skills and friends in Lourdesville while working part-time here when undergoing unpaid placement in Dublin during the week.
I have been a member of Macra na Feirme for three years and have acted as secretary and am now the county PRO.
“I’ve loved every moment of Macra including the activities we’ve partaken, the meetings in Booleigh, the tractor runs and the memories I’ve made with lifelong friends.,” she added.
We wish Katie the best of luck and know she will do Kildare proud.
