ARDSCOIL na Trionaide, Athy were been beaten by a single point at home to St Mary’s College, Knockbeg in Athy GAA on Friday afternoon. It was the epitome of a game of two halves, as the visitors dominated the first half, while it was all Athy in the second.

James Harris opened the scoring with a third-minute goal to give Athy an early lead. But it was Knockbeg that started the game much the better, controlling possession and playing much of the game in the Athy half.
The travelling Knockbeg support brought plenty of noise and energy, which seemed to affect Athy’s confidence. But for all their dominance, the visitors could not take full advantage and led by the slenderest of margins at have time. All to play for in the second half. Athy made two half-time substitutions which added a real spark to their performance in the second half. James Harris and Oisin Grufferty were outstanding on the day, but it wasn’t enough as Knockbeg soaked up the second half onslaught to come away with the win.Full Report and Pics in next Tuesday’s Kildare Nationalist.
