The 2022 Formula 1 season is at an end and, while Red Bull fans are in high spirits, there’s an agonising wait of over two months until pre-season testing kicks off in Sakhir on 23 February. However, fans of the high-octane sport can scratch a bit of that itch and channel their inner Max Verstappen at Kildare Village over the coming weeks.

The Mondello Park Experience at the shopping destination was officially launched this week by Rosemary Smith, renowned international rally and racing driver, Alex Dunne, who was announced recently as International Driver of the Year and recipient of the Manley Memorial Trophy, and Nicci Daly, Ireland international hockey player and motorsport enthusiast.

Two of Kildare’s iconic brands are teaming up to present this experience and until Sunday 8 January, motorsport enthusiasts can witness first-hand legendary Formula 1 cars in real life, up close and personal, as well as having the chance to drive the famous Mondello Park track virtually in a top of the range simulator used by F1 drivers!

This new experience highlights the heritage of motorsport and the Irish connections to Formula 1, and Mondello’s Managing Director Roddy Greene said they’re “delighted” to be part of Kildare Village for the Christmas period.

“Mondello Park is Ireland’s only international motorsport venue and Kildare Village is the perfect place to bring our experience to the public. The Mondello Park Experience at Kildare Village will take customers on a journey through the past, present, and future of motorsport and will also showcase Ireland’s most successful period in Formula 1, Jordan Grand Prix. Guests can also enjoy an exclusive 10% off driving experience vouchers purchased in store during the activation, making the perfect Christmas gift for F1 fans,” he explained.

The aforementioned driving experiences at Mondello include an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Formula Sheane single seater race car. As I can attest to personally the sensation of driving a vehicle like this, just inches from the ground, is quite unlike anything you’re likely to have experienced.

“Our racing simulators will give customers the chance to drive a lap of our famous track and to pit themselves against the very best of Irish racing talent,” Mr Greene added. “The Mondello Park Experience at Kildare Village will be a thrill for all, and we are looking forward to welcoming customers into our space throughout the festive period.”
