A MAN who allegedly assaulted another man in Naas in a case of “mistaken identity” was sent for trial to the present sittings of Naas Circuit Court.

Szymon Flitzikowski (28), Clarendon House, Newbridge Road, Kildare town appeared at a recent sitting of the district court from custody to be served with his book of evidence for the assault causing harm.

“It’s very serious what’s alleged,” commented Judge Desmond Zaidan. Sergeant Dave Hanrahan outlined the events on the Newbridge Road in Naas on 18 November 2024. “Gardaí got a call of an assault on the Newbridge Road, there was blood on the scene. The man just got out of the gym and it was an assault with a closed fist. Totally unprovoked,” he said.

“It was mistaken identity,” said the judge, giving his reasons for why he had refused bail in the first instance, which can’t be reported.

“Mr Flitzikowski suffers from schizophrenia,” revealed his solicitor Brian Larkin. “Get reports,” ordered the judge. “I am,” said Mr Larkin.  The judge then remanded Mr Flitzikowski back to custody, with consent to High Court bail, to the present sittings.
